Dexter's Borregard wants change

By Lindy Stevens, Special Writer

PUBLISHED: June 12, 2008

Democrat Eric Borregard of Dexter will be one of the newest names on the ballot for the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners election set for Nov. 4, 2008. Borregard will challenge Republican incumbent Mark Ouimet of Scio Township for the chance to represent District 1.

Borregard said his plan for Washtenaw County would take an environmentally based approach and keep an eye on sustainability. As the owner of E.B. Graphics Artech, LLC., a Livonia-based company that publishes technical documents for the auto industry, Borregard said he understood the limitations of a transportation system based primarily on petroleum.

Borregard said he would help make Washtenaw County a greener place by integrating more recreational modes of transportation, such as bicycling, into the everyday lives of more residents. Borregard added that he would also work to expand the availability of public transportation.

"The goal that I have is more of a cultural change," Borregard said. "Right now we're trapped on a fossil fuel treadmill and I think I would offer a voice on the board for a much brighter future."

The 52 year-old father of one said he would bring enthusiasm, a sense of direction and progressive solutions for energy policy to the Board of Commissioners.

"If you look at Washtenaw County's future, we have the intellectual resources and the manufacturing resources to become a world leader in energy production," Borregard said.

The local businessman said he decided to run for the Board of Commissioners because he has the time and desire to give back to the community. Borregard added that he understood the challenges associated with government and that he could help point Washtenaw County in the right direction.

Prior to inheriting his father's business, Borregard earned a degree from Oakland Community College. He currently attends Madonna University, where he is studying television production and journalism.

In his spare time, Borregard said he enjoys golfing at local Washtenaw County courses and kayaking in the Huron River.
