Lorine Ellenwood

Lorine Ellenwood of Chelsea passed away at home surrounded by her family on May 28, 2008. She was 85.
She was born the daughter of Clare W. and Agnes (Bell) Brown. On Aug. 23, 1942 she married George E. Ellenwood, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 14, 1989. Lorine was known to all as a very hard worker. She was known to many at the Wolverine Bar where she worked for many years. When she was not at the Wolverine, she was a 4-H Leader, Girl Scout Leader, and cook for everyone. Faith, family and friends were most important to Lorine.
Lorine is survived by her children Sharon (Ellenwood) Biggs of Chelsea, Sandra (Mac) Davis of Gregory, Sally Ellenwood of Chelsea and Paula (Tony) Clark of Chelsea. Also surviving are her grandchildren Daniel Jr., Michael, Jessica, and George, along with several great-grandchildren and her nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her brother Emmerson "Skip" Wheeler of Chelsea, and her sister Betty Hough of Florida.
The family would like to thank the following special people that helped the Ellenwood family during this time, Joe and Judy Merkel, Arlene Gillogs, Debi Gale, Tiffi Portito, as well as her many special friends, and you know who you are!
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Susie Kiner, and her son, Daniel T. Ellenwood, as well as her sister, Mary Ann Eder and a young sister, Haroldine.
Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday May 31, 2008 at St. Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. William J. Turner officiating. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Chelsea Area Fire Authority and St. Mary Catholic Church.
Warren H. Porath Sr.
Chelsea
Warren H. Porath Sr. of Chelsea passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Superior Twp. He was 83.
He was born Jan. 20, 1925 in Summit, S.D., the son of Lawrence and Regina (Jerde) Porath. Warren moved to the Chelsea area as a young boy and lived here most of his life. On July 28, 1945, he married Rosetta F. Robinson. He worked in the construction business for over 50 years. He established his own construction company in 1958, Porath Construction, working with his son Warren Porath Jr., building houses in the Chelsea Area. An avid outdoorsman, he built a cabin in Rose City, where he enjoyed deer hunting. He made several fishing trips to Canada with his wife and family. Warren and Rosetta raised their three children in Chelsea and were members of the First United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife of nearly 63 years, Rosetta; sons Warren Jr. (Pauline) Porath of Chelsea, and Lawrence (Linda) Porath of Charlevoix, and one daughter Shelly (Paul) Stringer of Flushing; eight grandchildren: Mark (Lisa ) Porath, Crystal (Steve) Heydlauff, Lucas (Jane) Porath, Jacob (Amanda) Porath, Ryan Stringer, Daniel Stringer, Joseph Stringer, and Kathryn Stringer; eight great-grandchildren: Michael, Taylor, Kevin, Reece, Kyle, Emma, Foster and Jackson; two brothers, Lawrence Jr. (Janet) Porath of Houghton Lake, and Harold (Joan) Porath of Munith, and one sister-in-law, Mary Porath of Chelsea; also his faithful friend and companion, his black lab Cody. He was preceded in death by two brothers Royce Porath and Donald Porath.
Funeral services were Saturday at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home with Rev. Joy Barrett officiating. Burial followed at Oak Grove East Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Chelsea or the Huron Valley Humane Society.
Ted Picklesimer
Chelsea
Ted Picklesimer of Chelsea died Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital. He was Age 58.
He was born June 22, 1949 in Stockbridge, the son of Ishmael & Mae (Bailey) Picklesimer.
Ted graduated in 1968, and worked for Dana in Chelsea, and later for Real Estate One. He was a member of the Olive Lodge #156 F. & A.M.
Survivors include his mother, Mae Picklesimer of Chelsea; his siblings, Castle Jerry (Mary E.) Picklesimer, Linda (Gail) Shears, Rita (Karl) Gadnai, Ishmael (Debra) Picklesimer Jr., Sam (Theresa) Picklesimer, James Picklesimer; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family received friends and held a Masonic Service Friday at Cole Funeral Chapel. A private burial was held at Oak Grove Cemetery, Chelsea. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
Daniel K. Grignon
Gregory
Daniel K. Grignon of Gregory passed away at the University of Michigan Hospital on Saturday, May 24, 2008. He was 63.
He was born May 4, 1945 in Ann Arbor, the son of Kenneth and Betty (Warden) Grignon. Daniel worked as a test driver for Chrysler Proving Grounds for 30 years. He had a special love for cars, especially sports cars and NASCAR, as well as tractors.
He is survived by one daughter, Shelley Braden, of Florida, two sisters, Pamela (David) Carver, of Tennessee, and Becky (Pete) Grasshoff of Ann Arbor; three nephews, Jason and Jeremy Grasshoff, and Michael Klapperich, and one niece, Melissa Hill, as well as his special friend, Kat Rogers. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Services were Friday, May 30, 2008, from the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, Chelsea, with Rev. Kathy Schell officiating. The family received friends on Friday. Interment followed at Vermont Cemetery.

Dale F. Rappette
Dale F. Rappette of Ashwaubenon, Wisc., died Wednesday, May 28, 2008. He was 74.
He was born Sept. 9, 1933, to the late Andrew and Prudance (Taylor) Rappette in Escanaba. Dale served his country in the U. S. Navy during the Korean Conflict from August 1952 to 1956. On Sept. 19, 1959, he married Mary Ann Kivisto in Flat Rock; she preceded him in death Aug. 12, 2003. He was a graduate of St. Joseph High School in Escanaba. Dale had been employed as an electrician at Paper Converting Co. from 1969 until his retirement in 1999. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and spending time with his family. Dale was a proud member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #10244.
Survivors include his children, Lori Collins and Ron Leavitt, Green Bay; Brenda DosReis, Green Bay; and Jeff Rappette, Waukesha; five grandchildren, Amy (Jason) Dingeldein; Paul Collins and his fianceí Tara Bauer; Traci Collins; Alex DosReis; and Lucas Rappette; two great-grandchildren, Amirah Dingeldein and Emerson DeLong; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Reino and Thelma Kivisto; one sister, Colleen (Robert) Houle, Chelsea; one brother, LeRoy (Sue) Rappette, Berrien Center, Michigan; a sister-in-law, Mary Lou Rappette, Plymouth; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mary Ann, he was preceded in death by his son, Brian and two brothers, Keith Rappette and Ronald Rappette.

Scott Thomas "Tom" Spears

Scott Thomas "Tom" Spears of Chelsea died peacefully Thursday, May 22, 2008 at VA Hospital in Ann Arbor with his family at his side. He was 85.
He was born Feb. 4, 1923 in Banner, Ky., the son of Thomas & Margaret (Crum) Spears.
Tom was a WWII Veteran serving in the US Army. He worked for Motorstate in Ypsilanti, then Pepsi in Milan until his retirement in 1988. Tom loved to garden, and shared the food he grew with many people in the community.
On April 24, 1945, he married Margaret Ann Conley in Paintsville, Ky., and she preceded him in death on June 17, 1990. Survivors include a son, Mike (Anita) Spears of Chelsea; four daughters, Linda (Ron) Carlson of Chelsea; Mary (Erik) Hansen of Dexter, Evelyn Spears of Chelsea; Ginger Bergey-Steinaway of Manchester; three sisters, Ruth (Clarence) Miracle, Georgie Campbell, and Carmella McConell. Tom dearly loved his 8 grandchildren, Jayma, Ronda, Tom (Karin), Brent, Caleb, Rodney, Tanya, Amanda, and Michaelís wife, Sheri; and 9 great-grandchildren, Hunter, Sean, Melissa, Tammy, Jocelyn, Jared, Alyssa, Jacob, and Landon. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Spears, 3 sisters, Dorothy Saxan, Hester Wills, Luna Rose, and a brother, Chad Spears.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 24, at Cole Funeral Chapel, Chelsea, with Pastor Steven L. Kincer officiating. Burial was at Vermont Cemetery, Chelsea. Memorial contributions may be made to the Extended Care Center at the Ann Arbor VA Hospital.
