Terry G. Ferris
Formerly of Chelsea
Terry G. Ferris of Ann Arbor and formerly of Chelsea passed away Thursday, March 14, 2008 at the Chelsea Retirement Community. He was 59.
Mr. Ferris was born on Nov. 10, 1948 in Lansing, the son of Donald and Virginia (Gilbert) Ferris. Terry graduated from Chelsea High School in 1966. He was employed by St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor for 30 years as an orderly and later a cardiac perfusionist, providing critical life support to patients undergoing open heart surgery. He took great pride in his work and was an active member of the American Academy of Cardiac Perfusionists.
In addition, Mr. Ferris had a great passion for collecting antiques of all kinds, including Fiesta Ware and Depression Glass. He also enjoyed carpentry and remodeling. He suffered a severe stroke in 2000 and showed tremendous courage and strength in his struggle to recover. He was a good and loyal friend with a great sense of humor. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Mr. Ferris was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his brothers Dennis (Alicia) Cosgrove of Spring Valley, Wisc. and John Ferris of Dunedin, Fla. Also surviving are uncle Robert Eisele of Chelsea, aunt Margaret Gilbert and cousin William Gilbert of Dexter, cousins Kathy (Gilbert) Warner of Ann Arbor, Patricia (Eisele) Scott of Clarkston, and Sandra Eisele of Gregory, step-mother Betty Ferris of Dunedin, Fla., and nephews Colin, Kyle and Kenny Cosgrove of Spring Valley, Wisc. The family also wishes to express appreciation for the loving and patient care provided for Terry by his good friend, Kevin Dreyer of Dearborn.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, May 24, 2008, 10 a.m. at the North Lake United Methodist Church. Expressions of sympathy may be made to United Methodist Retirement Community of Chelsea.
James Raymond Nye
Chelsea
James Raymond Nye of Chelsea died unexpectedly Thursday, May 15, 2008 at his home. He was 61.
Mr. Nye was born Nov. 7, 1946 in Ypsilanti, the son of Raymond George and Dorothy Gene (Tolmie) Nye.
He was a Navy veteran. He was a self-employed builder. He was the former owner of Tomís Party Store in Ypsilanti (1970-73) and the Suds Factory at EMU (1973-77). He also owned the Cavanaugh Lake Party Store from 1979-83. He was a happy guy who liked to hang out with family and friends and tinker in the garage.
He is survived by two sons, Reno (Cori) Nye and Rex (Sara) Nye, both of Chelsea; a brother, Tom (Roberta) Nye of Reno, Nev.; 4 grandchildren, Wyatt, Maya, Samantha, & Abbie Nye; 3 nieces and nephews, Tony, Nancy, and Suzie.
The family received friends on Wednesday, May 21 at the Chelsea Depot. Arrangements by Cole Funeral Chapel, Chelsea.
Glenn L. Lingerfelt
Chelsea
Glenn L. Lingerfelt of Chelsea passed away at the University of Michigan Hospital on May 16, 2008. He was 80.
He was born the son of Oscar and Susie (Johnson) Lingerfelt on April 13, 1928 in Wartrace, Tenn. On July 11, 1953 he married Janie Breen in Detroit, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 2, 1987. He was a retired plumber from the Local 98 Union Hall and a member of the VFW.
Mr. Lingerfelt is survived by his children Karen Brown of Stockbridge, Sandra Leming & husband David of Belleville, Ill., and Eric of Florida; grandchildren Ryan Brown and Brooks Leming; brother Oscar Lingerfelt Jr. of Florida, and sister Jewel Haggard of Chattanooga, Tenn. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers.
According to Glenn's wishes there will be no services and a private burial will take place at Mt. Hope Waterloo Cemetery . Arrangements are by the Staffan-Mitchell funeral home.
