Grant to help farm develop new solar-powered tractor

The Community Farm Ann Arbor has been awarded grant funding to develop a solar-powered tractor this year.

The tractor has recently been refurbished and will work the fields during the 2008 growing season powered by energy generated by photovoltaic panels.
The project is funded by a Michigan Energy Office's Community Energy Project Grant. The purposes of the grant are to develop an efficient alternative energy project; and showcase the project and conduct community education.
The Community Farm has a long history of conducting educational sessions.
The Community Farm of Ann Arbor is a group of farm members and growers who share a vision of sustainable agriculture and a commitment to the health of people and the land.
The Community Farm of Ann Arbor grows produce for 180 member families.
Each week from May through October, crops are harvested and brought to the farm's main barn for distribution and pick-up.
Established in 1987, the CFAA is located at 1525 S. Fletcher Road, two miles south of I-94 Exit 162.
