The Bulldogs topped the six-team field with 229 points.

The host Warriors were second with 176 points, while Lansing Everett was third with 65 points.

"We ran well today," said Chelsea coach Pat Clarke. "The girls continue to improve with each meet. They are working hard toward their season's goals."

Maher, Beaumont, Squires and Hopp placed first in the 3,200-meter relay in 11:25.

On May 6, host Chelsea defeated Tecumseh 72-65 in a dual meet. The meet came down to the final race.

"We told the girls it would come down to the 1,600 relay to see who would win the meet," Clarke said. "Going into the 1,600 relay, we led by two. So it all came down to the final race. This kind of finish is what people run track for. It was going to be all or nothing on the last race."

The Indians were favored to win the relay since they defeated Chelsea by six seconds in the race the prior week at a meet in Ypsilanti.

"It was time to produce," Clarke said.

The Bulldog foursome of Cassie Coffman, DeTroyer, Carpenter and Benjamin lined up for the meet's final race.

"They were up to the challenge," Clarke said. "Not only did they win the relay, but they broke the school record by 3.5 seconds. It was quite a dramatic finish."
