"It is a good Christian college where I can strengthen my faith in God, further my education and have fun" said Sauers, who also was a starting forward on the Bulldogs' state-ranked basketball team this past winter.
Sauers, a midfielder, was a four-year varsity player for Chelsea. A three-year first-team All-Southeastern Conference selection, Sauers earned third-team All-State honors this past season.
A co-captain, Sauers was Chelsea offensive MVP last year. For his career, the quick and athletic 6-foot-2 scoring whiz, finished his Bulldog career with 25 goals and 24 assists.
Also a standout in the classroom, Sauers earned Magna Cum Laude recognition and is a member of the National Honor Society.
"I hope to do my best and get a good education," said Sauers.
On the field, Sauers has two goals as he begins his collegiate soccer career.
"I want to have fun and use my abilities to help the Grace soccer team succeed," he said.
Grace College coach Roy Danielson said he was pleased with Sauers' decision.
"We are very happy at Grace that Michael has chosen to attend and play for us," he said. "He is a good fit for the college and our soccer program. We are looking forward to having Michael become a strong field player and spiritual leader for this team."
Coaching Sauers for three of his four years in high school former Chelsea coach Chad Scaling said Sauers' natural athletic ability, work ethic, dedication have enabled him to become an outstanding soccer player.
"He has great passion and understanding of the game of soccer," he said. "What is truly exceptional about Mike is his personality, character and faith. I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to not only coach Mike, but to watch him succeed in both athletics and academics. Mike will not only be an outstanding addition to the athletic program at Grace College, but to its entire community."
