Longtime resident was former business owner

PUBLISHED: May 8, 2008

Dwight Sherman Heeter of Grass Lake and formerly of Chelsea died Friday, May 2, 2008 in his home. He was 69.

Mr. Heeter was born March 2, 1939 in Chicago, the son of Edward Willard and Harriet Cotton (Letts) Heeter.

He was a salesman for Hadley-Roma Inc, and owned several small businesses, including Chelsea Automotive (1975-79), and Heeter Hardware in Stockbridge (1986-89). He loved golf, and was a member at Inverness Country Club for over 26 years, where he made many friends. Mr. Heeter was a US Coast Guard Veteran, as well as a charter member of the Chelsea Lions Club. When his children were young, he was a cub scout leader in Chelsea.

On Sept. 17, 1966, he married Kathleen Sadowski in Lorain, Ohio, and she survives. Survivors include four children, Derek (Amy) Thiery of West Bloomfield, Lisa (David) Morris of Chelsea, Laura (James) Etue of Grass Lake, and Adam Heeter of Whitmore Lake; a brother, William (Beverly) Heeter of Ariz.; 3 grandchildren, Erika (Jason) Knisely, Benjamin Morris, Aaron Etue; 5 great-grandchildren, Kathleen, Karolyn, and Kayla Scripter, Michael & Chasey Knisely; many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held May 7 at Cole Funeral Chapel, Chelsea, with Rev. John Morris & The Rev. Myra A. Colvin officiating. Burial followed at Oak Grove East Cemetery, Chelsea.

The family received friends Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to Arbor Hospice.
