Netters second at quad

Despite rainy weather, Chelsea's boys' tennis team hosted its own quad last Saturday, placing second overall.

Capturing the tournament was South Lyon.
"I am very proud of the growth and improvement the players are making, as well as the way the men are handling adverse weather conditions," said Chelsea assistant coach Tom Osbeck.
Earning gold medals for the Bulldogs on the day were Corey Vandervourt at No. 2 singles and Mike Kozma at No. 3 singles.
Receiving silver medals in the quad for Chelsea were Matt Johnson at No. 4 singles, Teddy Eyster and Josh Moffit at No. 3 doubles and Reid Mauti and David Stratman at No. 4 doubles.
Last Friday, the Bulldog JV squad finished 7-1 overall in a tournament at Marshall.
On April 21, Chelsea placed second at the Dexter quad.
Winning the tournament was Dearborn Heights Crestwood.
Earning gold medals for the Bulldogs in the event were Kin Tsang at No. 1 singles and the No. 2 doubles duo of Jordan Veenstra and Josh Fitzsimmons.
Receiving silver medals for Chelsea were Kozma at No. 2 singles, Vandervourt at No. 4 singles, Matt Bach and Moffitt at No. 3 doubles and Mauti and Stratman at No. 4 doubles.
Last Friday, the Bulldogs defeated visiting Marshall 6-2 in a dual match.
In singles play, Josh Stiles prevailed over David Devaney 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 1 flight.
At No. 2 singles, Reece Hammer won 7-6, 6-3 over Adam Kingston.
At No. 3 singles, Chris Tapping lost to Spencer Townsend 6-4, 7-5.
Tsang lost to Remy Dillion 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4 singles.
In doubles, Steve Tapping and Eric Dudek prevailed in a three-set classic 7-6, 5-7, 7-6 over Adam Wolfe and Eric Mayo at the No. 1 flight.
At No. 2 doubles, George Merkel and Chris LaDuke defeated Eric Ebner and Henrique Boscolo 6-3, 6-1.
At No. 3 doubles, Sean Dzobel and Dolan Personke won 6-2, 6-3 over Alex hakes and Jack Townsend.
Wesley Fritzemeier and Nate Ripberger won a three-set match 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 over Josh Welch and Paulo Reginaldo at No. 4 doubles.
Last Saturday, the Bulldogs captured the Temperance Bedford Invitational with 23 points.
The host Mules were second with 17 points, followed by Carleton Airport with seven points.
Winning tournament titles for Chelsea in singles were Stiles at No. 1, Hammer at No. 2, Chris Tapping at No. 3 and Tsang at No. 4.
In doubles, Merkel and LaDuke finished first at No. 2 doubles, while Dzobel and Personke and Ripberger and Fritzemeier won at No. 3 and No. 4 doubles, respectively.
Steve Tapping and Dudek placed second at No. 1 doubles for Chelsea.
The Bulldogs next host state power Ann Arbor Pioneer Thursday at 4 p.m.
On Saturday, Chelsea will host its JV quad at 8:30 a.m.
Also Saturday, the Bulldog varsity will participate in the Portland Invitational at 9 a.m.
On May 10, Chelsea will host Ypsilanti Lincoln at 4 p.m.
