In the opener, junior pitcher Karah Schanz (8-1 on the year) recorded the win from the circle tossing a three-hitter, striking out 10 and walking one.
"Karah really dominated from the circle for us," said Chelsea assistant coach Jennifer Diesing, who is filling in for head coach Jenni Linde who'll miss the rest of the season because of personal reasons.
The Bulldogs (14-3) scored the game-winning run in the top of the seventh inning when junior Brogan Darwin singled and was brought home by senior Hannah Guenther's RBI double to centerfield.
Defensively, Chelsea played well committed no errors.
"Coming off a successful weekend at the Chelsea Invitational, the girls remained tough and played hard, never giving up until the end," Diesing said.
In the second game, Schanz absorbed the loss scattering five hits, fanning eight and walking three.
"Karah came in for us and continued to dominate in the second game," Diesing said. "We struggled with our hitting, but we stayed strong on defense with no errors and only two runs scored after the first inning. The second game was a tough loss, but overall the girls played strong."
At the plate, Darwin led the way for Chelsea finishing 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Junior Annie Hollandsworth was 1-for-2 with a double, while Guenther had a double.
Last Saturday, Chelsea hosted its own invitational posting a 3-1 record for the day.
"We had a great day," Diesing said. "The girls really came together, worked hard and played very well together. After winning the DeWitt Invitational the previous weekend, the girls were fired up and ready to face new competition."
Individually, Darwin had a strong tournament at the plate belting three home runs and recording eight RBIs.
To begin the invite, the Bulldogs beat Holt 5-0.
Schanz earned the win from the rubber allowing six hits, striking out six and walking one.
"The girls were really fired up and excited to play Holt," Diesing said. "Although we struggled to score some runs in a few innings, the girls stayed tough and fought hard for the win. The girls played an amazingly aggressive game and they truly deserved to walk away with a win."
Darwin cranked a grand slam home run and added a single to spark the Chelsea attack. Junior Lizzy Bentley ended up 2-for-3, including a double for the Bulldogs.
"Brogan's phenomenal grand slam to put us ahead showed just how hard we wanted to win," Diesing said.
In its second game, Chelsea defeated Lansing Catholic Central 10-0.
Senior Chelsea Strickland picked up the win from the circle for the Bulldogs, throwing a one-hitter with seven strikeouts.
"Beating Lansing CC was a great confidence booster for our team and really helped to keep our spirits up to play Napoleon in Game 3 of the tournament," Diesing said.
Offensively, junior Casey Keszler led Chelsea with an inside the park home run and two RBIs.
Darwin added three stolen bases, while junior Casey Keilman had two swipes.
Defensively, Chelsea was once again stellar committing no errors.
In their third game, the Bulldogs beat Napoleon 9-3.
Schanz chalked up the win giving up 10 hits, fanning seven and walking one.
Darwin was a monster at the plate finishing 3-for-3, including two home runs, a double and four RBIs. Guenther ended up 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs.
In Game 4 of the tournament, Chelsea lost to Trenton 5-1.
Strickland recorded the loss yielding nine hits, striking out seven and walking one.
"We struggled against a strong Trenton pitcher and strong Trenton offense," Diesing said. "After three exhausting games, the girls still played hard and held their own against a very strong and effective Trenton team."
Bentley paced the Bulldogs finishing 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI.
Chelsea committed three errors.
On April 24, the host Bulldogs swept Gibraltor Carlson 7-0, 9-3.
Strickland won Game 1 throwing a one-hitter, fanning seven and walking one.
Keilman was 2-for-4 with a double, while junior Kelly Whitley was 2-for-3.
In the nightcap, Schanz was victorious from the rubber tossing a no-hitter, striking out eight and walking five.
Keilman sparked the offense going 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.
Chelsea next travels to Ypsilanti Lincoln for a match-up Thursday at 4 p.m.
