Chelsea sweeps Lincoln

Chelsea softball is on a roll. The Bulldogs (11-5-1, 4-2 Southeastern Conference) have won five of their last six ball games.

"The girls are playing very well right now," said Chelsea coach Robin Raymond.
Last Monday, Chelsea proved just how well its playing by sweeping host Ypsilanti Lincoln 16-3, 10-0 in a SEC White Division doubleheader.
"Anytime you play on the road in the SEC, you have to bring you're A game," Raymond said. "The girls played well and consistent in both ball games."
In the opener, the Bulldogs forced the mercy rule after six innings.
Sophomore Kayley Dixon recorded the victory from the circle for Chelsea pitching all six innings.
At the plate, senior Annie Hollandsworth led the Bulldogs attack with four hits, including two doubles.
Senior Brogan Darwin added three hits, including two triples.
Sophomore Sara Dixon had a double and one RBI, while junior Stevie Gregory had a single and two RBIs for Chelsea.
In the second game, senior Karah Schanz tossed a five-hit shutout for the Bulldogs.
Leading the Chelsea offensive output was freshman Ellie Stoffer with three hits.
Darwin added two hits and three RBIs, while Sara Dixon had two hits and junior Andrea Herrst a single and one RBI for the Bulldogs.
Last Saturday, Chelsea hosted its own invitational. The Bulldogs finished the day 3-1 overall.
In the tournament's first game, the Bulldogs defeated Holt 7-5. Former Chelsea coach Kim Reichard coaches the Rams.
Chelsea exploded for a 7-0 lead, before Holt rallied for five runs in the last two innings for the contest's final margin.
Senior Kelly Whitley picked up the win from the circle for Chelsea throwing all seven innings.
Senior Lizzy Bentley paved the way offensively for the Bulldogs with two RBIs.
Sophomore Shelby Platt had an RBI double, while Darwin clubbed a home run. The roundtripper was Darwin's third of the season.
In Game 2, Chelsea defeated Lansing Catholic Central 16-9.
Schanz went the distance for the win for the Bulldogs.
Stoffer ignited the offense with three hits, while senior Casey Keilman and Gregory each recorded two hits for Chelsea.
In their third game of the tournament, the Bulldogs lost to Class C No. 5-ranked Napoleon 12-0.
"They're a very good softball team," Raymond said.
Chelsea scratched out two hits as junior Nicole Reid and Platt each singled.
In the fourth game of the invite, the Bulldogs regrouped for a 6-2 win over Canton.
Whitley earned the victory from the circle.
Stoffer connected for three hits to lead Chelsea.
Senior Rachel Voicechovski, Reid and Bentley each added two hits for the Bulldogs.
Winning three out of four games pleased Raymond.
"It was a successful day for us," he said.
Chelsea next travels to county rival Dexter for a game Thursday at 4 p.m.
On Monday, the Bulldogs host Adrian at 4 p.m.
On May 8, Chelsea hosts Ann Arbor Pioneer at 4 p.m.
JV Softball
Chelsea's JV softball team defeated host Ypsilanti Lincoln 19-10 last Monday. The second game of a scheduled doubleheader was cancelled because of weather.
Katie Van Schoick recorded the win from the circle for the Bulldogs (4-7).
At the plate, Alyssa Prokos cranked a home run for Chelsea.
Last Thursday, the host Bulldogs lost a doubleheader to Saline 25-3, 22-10.
On April 19, Chelsea travel to Ann Arbor Pioneer to take on Dexter and the host Pioneers.
The Bulldogs defeated Pioneer 9-6.
Devyn Trester paced the Chelsea offense with three two-out RBI hits.
In the second game, the Bulldogs lost to the Dreadnaughts 13-2.
Chelsea next visits Dexter for a game Thursday at 4 p.m.
On Monday, the Bulldogs host Adrian at 4 p.m.
On May 8, Chelsea hosts Ann Arbor Pioneer at 4 p.m.
