Carpenter sets record

Chelsea's boys' track and field team finished second at last Friday's Corunna Relays.

The Bulldogs ended up with 114 points. Eight teams participated in the meet.
Flint Carman-Ainsworth finished first with 142 points.
Placing first for Chelsea was the distance medley relay foursome of Brendan Smith, Teddy Eyster, Danny Ngo and Riley Feeney, with a time of 11:09.3.
In the 6,400-meter relay, the Bulldog group of Nick Hewitt, Mark Smith, Brendan Smith and Eyster finished second in 19:30.1.
Brendan Smith, Mark Smith, Hewitt and Feeney crossed the line second in the 3,200-meter relay in 8:40.3.
Antwan McClendon, Jason Ratliff, Brendan Smith and Evan Carpenter ended up second in the 1,600-meter relay in 3:30.9.
Justin McGrath, Brad Ratliff, Jason Ratliff and McClendon placed second in the sprint medley relay with a clocking of 3:30.4.
In the shuttle hurdle relay, Greg Rebudela, Brad Ratliff, McGrath and Carpenter finished second in 1:04.8.
Jason Ratliff, Kevin Rosentreter, Ngo and Carpenter placed third in the 800-meter relay in 1:34.0.
In the 400-meter relay, Nick Hill, Jason Ratliff, Ngo and Carpenter finished third in 44.3.
On April 17, host Chelsea defeated Southeastern Conference White Division foe Ypsilanti Lincoln 106-35 in a dual meet.
"We performed well in our opening meet against a young Lincoln squad," said Chelsea coach Eric Swager. "More than 15 lifetime bests were set and our execution is improving."
Carpenter led the Bulldogs finishing first in the 110-meter hurdles in a school record-tying 14.6. Carpenter tied Dave McLaughlin's mark set in 1965. The record is the school's oldest.
"Evan continues to improve and as he gains competitive fire, he should break the record," Swager said.
Carpenter also was first in the 300-meter hurdles in 42.2.
McClendon placed first in the long jump with a leap of 19-feet, 4 inches. He also was first in the high jump with a height of 5-6. On the track, McClendon broke the tape first in the 400-meter run with a time of 53.1.
Brendan Smith was a double-winner in the 1,600-meter run in 4:48 and in the 800-meter run in 2:04.4.
Hewitt was first in the 3,200-meter run in 10:37 for the Bulldogs.
Ngo broke the tape first in the 200 meters in 23.3.
Jason Ratliff was first in the 100 meters in 11.21.
In relays, the Bulldogs placed first in the 3,200-meter relay (8:46), the 800-meter relay (1:33.9) and the 400-meter relay (45.2).
Chelsea next travels to Mason to compete in its invitational Friday at 3:30 p.m.
On Tuesday, the Bulldogs visit Tecumseh for a meet at 4:30 p.m.
