Your nose is delighted with the smells coming from the chef's tent where your tongue samples cuisine from one of the area's finer restaurants. You are delighted to see crafts, handmade cards, baked goods, jewelry being sold by cheerful vendors, because your Aunt Nelly has a birthday tomorrow and you haven't got her gift yet.
You might even hear music - a fiddle trio of children, a band or a local musician. You've just discovered Chelsea's best kept secret - the Chelsea Farmers Market.
Beginning on May 5, the Chelsea Farmers Market runs every Saturday morning through October from 8 a.m. until noon.
Each month, the market has special activities. A Children's Booth series invites children to come andcreate a craft free of charge. The Chef's series features chefs from area restaurants who prepare a special sampling free for market customers. Music, horse and buggy rides, and a basket giveaway every month are donated by the vendors.
The Chelsea Farmers Market has been in existence since 1990. Started by Sue Rodgers, of Rodgers Corner Produce and Sandy Barkman of TJ Farms, the market is managed by the vendors themselves. Throughout the winter, the vendors meet to plan for the coming season.
Chelsea Farmers Market is truly a local Michiganfarmers market. All produce is fresh and grown locally here in Michigan. All crafters and artisans sellMichigan handmade arts and crafts. Visiting the market is a great way to support your local producers.
