Irene Olga Ahrens

Grass Lake

Irene Olga Ahrens of Grass Lake died Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. She was 80.

She was born January 14, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Andrew and Theresa (Gorgich) Sviatko. Ireneís grandchildren were her life. She loved animals, enjoyed gardening, and was an avid reader. On Sept. 6, 1958, she married Gene Louis Ahrens at Holy Cross Church in Detroit, and he survives.

Other survivors include three children, Theresa (Danny) Lancaster of Chelsea, Andrew (Lisa) Ahrens of Grass Lake, and Mark Ahrens of Grass Lake; two brothers, Andrew (Peggy) Sviatko of Brighton, Frank (Stella) Sviatko of Lincoln Park; four grandchildren, Kimberley (Chris) Potocki, Thomas Lancaster, David Ahrens, and Ashley Ahrens; a niece, Jennifer (Chris) Sheehan.

She was preceded in death by two grandchildren,, Kathryn Lancaster and Justin Ahrens; and a nephew, Andrew Sviatko.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 7, at Cole Funeral Chapel, Chelsea, with the Rev. Mark Porinsky officiating. Burial followed at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Waterloo.

The family received friends Saturday and Sunday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cascades Humane Society or the Chelsea District Library.

Anthony Lewis Bell

Dexter

Anthony Lewis Bell of Dexter passed away on April 6, 2008. He was 76.

He was born in Romulus, MI, the son of Carl and Alberta Bell. Anthony was united in marriage to his beloved wife, the late Shirley Bell, on Oct. 6, 1951. He was a member of various organizations, including the American Legion - Chelsea Post 431, the Chelsea Rod and Gun Club, and the Masons.

Anthony is survived by his daughters, Terrie (Doug) Amerman and Toni (Jack) Reeves, both of Dexter; and grandchildren Daniel (Amber) Amerman of PA, Timothy Amerman of Dexter, and Jessica Reeves of Dexter. He is also survived by his sisters, Darlene Bell, Betty (Bruce) Hammond, and Theresa (Jesse) Bedalla, and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as his ìlittle buddyî Bailey.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirely Bell; his parents; and his brothers Carl Bell and Jerry Bell.

A short visitation will take place on Friday, April 11, 2008 at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Memorial Service at 10:30 a.m., at the Hosmer-Muehlig Funeral Chapel in Dexter.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked all donations be made to the Chelsea Rod and Gun Club, 7103 Lingane Rd., Chelsea, MI 48118.

Ralph Gunnar Nilsen

Sharon Township

Ralph Gunnar Nilsen of Sharon Township went to his eternal home in glory on Sunday, April 6, 2008 at the Critical Care Center at the University of Michigan Medical Center.

He was born April 14, 1948 on Staten Island, N.Y., the third child of Bjarne and Doris Nilsen. He was a graduate of the New York High School of Printing and the Brooklyn Community College in NYC, now New York City Technical College. He went on to attend Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo. He served in the United States Navy from 1967 to 1969.

Married in San Francisco in 1974, he is survived by his wife, Kathryn Edith (White) Nilsen; his sister, Anne I. Nilsen of Pacifica, Calif.; and two daughters; Corinna A. of Pacifica, Calif., and Laura K. Osborne (Kevin) of Kalamazoo, as well as many cousins and aunts, both in America and Norway.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, Eric, who died in Vietnam in 1968.

Visitation will be held at Chelsea First United Methodist Church, 125 Park St., on Thursday, April 10, from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m., and one hour before his celebration of life service at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 11 at the church.

Memorial contributions can be made to Chelsea First United Methodist Church.

Jack M. Sharpe

Ann Arbor

Jack M. Sharpe of Ann Arbor died Monday, April 7, 2008 at his home. He was 71.

He was born August 24, 1936 in Tennessee, the son of Herbert and Ada (Keck) Sharpe. On August 2, 1957 he married Ethel Joyce Brown, and she preceded him in death on March 20, 2005.

He is survived by one son, Ken (Judy) Sharpe of Columbia Falls, MT; a sister, Marge Brown of Monroe, Mich.; three grandchildren, Eric, Allison, and Carolyn Sharpe.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Kermit Sharpe, and a daughter, Darlene Sharpe.

Jack was a proud veteran of the First Cavalry Division, Eighth Cavalry Regiment of the United States Army. Jack retired after a 30-year career from MichCon. He was an avid outdoorsman and created many special memories afield with family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 11, at 11 a.m. at Cole Funeral Chapel, Chelsea, with Rev. Dr. Barbara Edema officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Chelsea.

The family will receive friends Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the funeral. Memorial contributions may be made to Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Marie Holzhausen

Chelsea

Marie Holzhausen of Chelsea passed away at the Arbor Hospice Residence in Ann Arbor on April 1, 2008. She was 86.

She was born the daughter of Zeb and Maggie Hicks on April 19, 1921 in Mayfield, Kentucky. On August 30 1941 she married Donald James Holzhausen and he survives. Marie loved to cook for her family, getting together with everyone was very important to her. She also enjoyed going to Florida and traveling with her husband. Family and friends were most important to her.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Don (Sandy) Holzhausen of Chelsea; grandchildren Jeff (Kelly) Holzhausen of Ypsilanti, Jennipher (Michael) Wheeler of Grand Haven, and Jamie Holzhausen of Grass Lake as well as one great-granddaughter, Reaghan Wheeler; and one niece, Wilma Yates. She is also survived by her sister, Vertice Davidson of Fla.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Glaydis Yates, brothers Verlie and Ivan Hicks and a niece, Betty Haley.

Funeral services were held April 4 at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home. The Rev. Georgie Dack officiated.

Burial followed at Mt. Hope Waterloo Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the charity of oneís choice.
