Josie Rukuwai and Peter Ayers were married Dec. 1, 2007 on the beach near Christchurch on the South Island in New Zealand.The bride wore a simple sundress with roses in her hair that matched her bouquet.

The bride is the daughter of Dave and Pat Rukuwai of Christchurch, New Zealand. The groom is the son of Mark and Carolyn Ayers of Whitmore Lake.
The maid of honor was Trinnie Rukuwai, sister of the bride, and Odessa Rukuwai, another sister of the bride was the bridesmaid.
Mark Ayers, father of the groom, was the best man.
The memorable ceremony began with a Maori song, sung by a sister of the bride. The guests stood on the beach, facing the ocean while a Baptist minister performed the ceremony. The bride and groom exchanged their vows and shared communion, barefoot in the sand, with the ocean breeze blowing strong. Family and friends of the bride from all over New Zealand attended, as well as the groom's parents from Whitmore Lake.
The reception was held in the backyard garden of the couple's residence in Christchurch, New Zealand.
The bride graduated from Christchurch High School, NZ. She was formerly employed with the New Zealand Air Force, and is currently the warehouse manager for James Hardie.
The groom is a 1998 graduate of Dexter High School. He was a U.S. Marine stationed in San Diego and Iraq, then employed at McMurdo Station in Antarctica. Peter is currently a stay-at-home dad.
The couple is planning to move to Michigan with their children Tahunuiarangi and Sophia in the fall of 2008.
