Dawgs ready for state meet

Six members of Chelsea's boys' swimming and diving team will participate in this year's Division II state final Friday through Saturday at Oakland University.

Competition begins at noon Friday with preliminary races. The finals are noon Saturday.
Cost to attend the event is $6 for preliminaries and $7 for finals. Ticket sales start at 9:30 a.m. both days. There are no advanced sales.
Bulldogs qualified for the state meet include senior Nick Armstrong in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay.
Chelsea senior Rick Kinsey qualified in the 200 freestyle, the 500 freestyle, the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay. Last year at the state meet, Kinsey placed ninth in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:47.63.
Bulldog senior Brett Kruse qualified in the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay.
Senior Jordan Skidmore qualified in the 100 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 200 freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay for Chelsea.
Bulldog senior Jake Policht qualified in the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay.
Chelsea freshman Michael Heydlauff qualified in the diving competition.
At last season's state meet, Armstrong, Kinsey and Skidmore were members of the Bulldogs' 12th place 400 freestyle relay that stopped the clock in 3:20.11.
Last year, Chelsea finished 18th overall in the state with 34 points.
Winning the Division II state title last season was Birmingham Groves with 325 points. Midland Dow ended up second with 216 points, while Birmingham Seaholm was third with 167 points.
Locally, Dexter was 15th with 54 points, while Tecumseh was 21st with 30 points and Ypsilanti 29th with six points.
This season, the Bulldogs placed third in the Southeastern Conference White Division. The Dreadnaughts placed first, while Tecumseh was second and Ypsilanti Lincoln fourth.
