Champion soars to success

An outstanding effort by the Champion Level 7 girls gymnastics team earned them 110.340 points and a second-place trophy at the Turner Toledo 50's Sox Hop Meet on Jan. 13.

Contributing in all four events for Champion was Taylor Livingston, who placed first on vault (9.45), second on bars (9.325), first on balance beam (9.325), first on floor (9.4) and first all-around with a score of 37.5.
Denae Wilce also performed well, adding to the team score with a first place on bars (9.025) and fourth on floor (9.075). Galya Traskos contributed with a second on beam (9.05) and third on vault (9.225). Jaime Uren earned fourth on bars (8.825).
Emma Powers came in first on beam (9.15) and second on floor (9.25). Hanna Ljungman added to the total with a 9.24 on vault (fourth place). Also competing and placing sixth all-around individually was Morgan Taylor.
Competing at Level 8 for Champion was Claire Tewksbury, who took first all around in the 14-year-old group with a score of 35.35. She placed first on bars (8.9) and first on beam (9.25). Alyssa Young competed at Level 9 and placed seventh all around.
The Level 7 girls were again successful at the Sand Dollar Classic in Orlando, Fla. on Jan. 27 winning the seventh-place trophy with a score of 110.9.
Once again, Livingston excelled in all four events earning 38 points (a new record for the gym) and first place all-around. She scored a 9.6 on vault, 9.6 on floor, 9.55 on balance beam and 9.25 on bars.
Also placing for Champion was Morgan Taylor with a beam score of 9.0 (fourth place). Wilce's all around of 37.075 earned her first place in her age group and was a personal best. She helped the team with a second-place vault (9.475), first place on beam (9.05), first place on bars (9.2), and third on floor (9.35). Ljungman contributed a third-place finish on vault (9.3) and beam (8.15).
Competing in just two events, Gabbie Ralph earned a 9.375 on floor (second place) adding to the team total.
The Champions' optional team (Level 7 through 10) is coached by Michelle Patterson.
