Defense leads Beach cagers

Chelsea's Beach Middle School seventh-grade Blue girls' basketball team defeated host Adrian Blue 19-13 Feb. 12.

"We played an outstanding defensive third quarter allowing only one point," said Chelsea coach Mike Bareis.

Leading the Bulldogs were Grace Sauers and Bailey Darwin who each scored 10 points.

Jessie Fox added three points, while Laurel Hall had two points for Beach.

Last Thursday, host Chelsea defeated Saline Blue 26-21.

"It was a nice win for the team," Bareis said. "All 14 players contributed to the win."

Sauers and Darwin each finished with 12 points to lead Beach. Hall added eight points.

Georgie Paulsen, Emma Doty and Fox each had two points for the Bulldogs.

"Genny Stubbs, Mackenzie Trester and Donielle Earls all played well at both ends of the court," Bareis said.

Chelsea next hosts Dexter Maroon Thursday at 4 p.m.

On Tuesday, the Bulldogs travel to Tecumseh for a game at 4 p.m.

On Feb. 28, Chelsea hosts Saline Gold at 4 p.m.

Chelsea's Beach Middle School seventh-grade Gold girls' basketball team defeated host Adrian White 12-10 Feb. 14.

"We took a lead into halftime for the first time all year," said Chelsea coach Brian Sayers. "Our execution was better than previous games. I am happy that the things we worked on in practice are carrying over to the game."

Carley Wooster and Christina Argeiro led the Bulldogs with four points each.

Shianne Sherman added two points, while Olivia Steele and Lilly Bowen each had one point for Beach.

On Feb. 12, Chelsea lost to visiting Tecumseh 14-12.

"I think the girls figured out what it takes to compete," Sayers said. "It was a tough loss for us, but we are getting better in all aspects every day."

Sherman paced the Bulldogs with five points.

Margaret Lindauer and Wooster each chipped in four points, while Ella Fritzmeirer, Megan Lowe, Lilly Bowen and Autumn Johnson each had two points for Beach.

Chelsea next hosts Ypsilanti Lincoln Tuesday at 4 p.m.

On Feb. 28, the Bulldogs visit Saline Blue for a contest at 4 p.m.

Chelsea's Beach Middle School eighth-grade Gold girls' basketball team defeated host Adrian White 23-5 last Thursday.

McKenzie Cole led the Bulldogs (5-0) with 10 points.

Amber Plemens, Jessica Hall and Kate Kingsley each added six points, while Alexis Romelhardt had four points and Sarah Bucholz had three points for Beach.

Nicole Brown, Taylor Van Riper and Jessica Battaglia each netted two points for Chelsea.

On Feb. 12, the host Bulldogs beat Tecumseh 24-12.

Cole sparked Chelsea with 12 points.

Kingsley finished with six points, while Hall had four points and Tess Scheussler three points for Beach.

Romelhardt, Bucholz and Plemens each added two points.

Chelsea next hosts Ypsilanti Lincoln Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

On Feb. 28, the Bulldogs travel to Saline Blue for a game at 5:30 p.m.

Chelsea's Beach Middle School eighth-grade Blue girls' basketball team defeated visiting Saline Blue 22-19 last Thursday.

Allie Smith led the Bulldogs (5-1) with nine points.

Sam French added seven points, while Grace Martin and Sophie DeTroyer each had six points for Beach. DeTroyer was also 4-of-4 from the free throw line during the game.

Lisa Keene finished with five points, while Jessica Ruikka and Katie Wolpert each netted four points and Victoria Huemann one point for Chelsea.

The Bulldogs next host Dexter Maroon Thursday at 5:30 p.m. Dexter handed Beach its only loss of the season.

On Tuesday, Chelsea travels to Tecumseh for a game at 5:30 p.m.

On Feb. 28, the Bulldogs host Saline Gold at 5:30 p.m.
