After the dust had settled, three Bulldog grapplers had qualified for the regional meet. To advance to the regional meet a wrestler had to finish in the top four at districts.

This was such a tough district," said Chelsea coach Kerry Kargel. "We had some of the best kids in the state here. We had quite a few defending state champions. To get three kids out (of district) was good. I was really happy. Hopefully, they can advance to states."

To qualify for the state meet in March, a wrestler will have to place in the top four at regionals.

Advancing to the regional meet for Chelsea were junior Glen Cobb at 119 pounds, sophomore Dakota Cooley at 135 and junior Kevin Rosentreter at 171.

Cobb placed fourth in his weight class finishing 2-2 on the day. He lost to Fowlerville's Anthony Lee by pin in 3:20 in the district third-fourth-place match.

Cooley ended up second at 135 with a 3-1 record. He lost in the final to Mason's Craig Eifert 10-4.

Rosentreter placed fourth at 171 finishing 2-2 overall. He lost to Logan Jewell of Jackson County Parma Western 5-3 in the third-fourth-place match.

Though not advancing to the regional meet, other Chelsea grapplers performed well last Saturday.

At 103, Steve Buss finished 2-2 overall for the Bulldogs. At 112, Andrew Nold was 0-1, while Dough Zygner was 0-1 at 135 for Chelsea.

Brandon French ended up 0-1 at 140, while Matt Lindauer was 1-2 at 145 and Nick Doll 0-1 at 145 for the Bulldogs.

Tim Shoemaker finished 0-1 at 189, while George Clark and Tim Rosentreter each were 0-1 at heavyweight for Chelsea.

The individual regional meet is Saturday in Charlotte at 9:30 a.m.

On Feb. 13, the Bulldogs lost to host Fowlerville 40-28 in a first round state team district match. With the loss, Chelsea's team season came to a close.

"Overall, I thought we performed well," Kargel said.

At 103, Buss defeated Mack Elliott 16-7.

At 112, Nold lost to Matt Bates on a 19-8 major decision.

Cobb defeated Anthony Lee 5-0 at 119.

Bulldog Matt Gillispie lost by pin in 2:47 to Kyle Rogers at 125.

Zygner pinned Aaron King in 4:00 at 130.

Cooley beat Zach Suttin on a 15-0 technical fall at 135 for Chelsea.

At 140, French lost by pin to Seth Glover in 3:19.

Doll won by void at 145 for the Bulldogs.

Chelsea's Andrew LeVanseler lost by pin in 1:13 to Alex Ovelenndo at 152.

Bulldog Matt Mills lost by pin in 1:48 to Ben Asp at 160.

Kevin Rosentreter pinned Jordan McDowell in 2:36 at 171.

At 189, Chelsea's Kyle Coburn lost by pin in 1:14 to Dylan Kern.

At 215, Shoemaker lost by pin in 1:03 to David Herter.

Tim Rosentreter lost by pin in 3:30 to Eric Heltmann.
