After the dust had settled, three Bulldog grapplers had qualified for the regional meet. To advance to the regional meet a wrestler had to finish in the top four at districts.
This was such a tough district," said Chelsea coach Kerry Kargel. "We had some of the best kids in the state here. We had quite a few defending state champions. To get three kids out (of district) was good. I was really happy. Hopefully, they can advance to states."
To qualify for the state meet in March, a wrestler will have to place in the top four at regionals.
Advancing to the regional meet for Chelsea were junior Glen Cobb at 119 pounds, sophomore Dakota Cooley at 135 and junior Kevin Rosentreter at 171.
Cobb placed fourth in his weight class finishing 2-2 on the day. He lost to Fowlerville's Anthony Lee by pin in 3:20 in the district third-fourth-place match.
Cooley ended up second at 135 with a 3-1 record. He lost in the final to Mason's Craig Eifert 10-4.
Rosentreter placed fourth at 171 finishing 2-2 overall. He lost to Logan Jewell of Jackson County Parma Western 5-3 in the third-fourth-place match.
Though not advancing to the regional meet, other Chelsea grapplers performed well last Saturday.
At 103, Steve Buss finished 2-2 overall for the Bulldogs. At 112, Andrew Nold was 0-1, while Dough Zygner was 0-1 at 135 for Chelsea.
