At halftime, the Big Reds increased their advantage to 25-20.

In the third quarter, Chelsea regrouped and outscored Milan 17-6 taking a 37-31 lead into the fourth stanza.

In the fourth quarter, the Big Reds outscored the Bulldogs 13-12 but it was too little too late as Chelsea pulled out the first round district victory.

Junior Krystin Schwarze led the Bulldogs with 14 points, three rebounds and two assists.

Senior Brogan Darwin added 13 points, nine rebounds, six steals and two assists, while senior Annie Hollandsworth had nine points and three steals for Chelsea.

Senior Emily Rabbitt finished with eight points and five boards, while senior Anna Foley and junior Megan Dunn each netted two points for the Bulldogs.

Junior Erin Benjamin had one point, three rebounds, three assists and one steal for Chelsea.

From the floor, the Bulldogs ended up 18-of-51 for 35 percent. Milan was 15-of-35 for 43 percent.

At the free throw line, Chelsea was 10-of-19 for 53 percent, while the Big Reds were 12-of-14 for 86 percent.

Milan out-rebounded the Bulldogs 30-23. Chelsea, however, had an 11-8 advantage on the offensive glass.

The Bulldogs forced 27 turnovers and had 16 steals.

The Big Reds had eight blocked shots.

Last Thursday, Chelsea defeated host Adrian 52-42. With the win, the Bulldogs captured the SEC White Division championship. The title is Chelsea's third in a row and seventh in the last eight years.

Hollandsworth and Rabbitt paced the Bulldogs each scoring 14 points.

Darwin chipped in a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds. She also had two blocks and three steals.

Schwarze finished with six points, while Benjamin had three points and Dunn two points for Chelsea.

Nellie Daniels, Lizzy Bentley and Foley each had one rebound.

From the floor, the Bulldogs were 15-of-43 for 35 percent. Adrian ended up 13-of-38 for 34 percent.

At the line, Chelsea was 20-of-27 for 74 percent. The Maples were 13-of-17 for 76 percent.

Adrian out-rebounded the Bulldogs 27-24. But, as it did against Milan, Chelsea won the battle on the offensive boards, grabbing seven rebounds to Adrian's six.

The Bulldogs' pressure forced 27 turnovers and resulted in 12 steals.

Chelsea swatted away seven Maple shots.

The Bulldogs ruled the paint scoring 22 points down low.

On Feb. 12, host Chelsea defeated Saline 44-32.

After a 10-10 first quarter, the Bulldogs exploded for 15 second quarter points taking a 25-16 lead into the break.

In the third quarter, the Hornets battled back scoring 12 points, while limiting Chelsea to five points, cutting the Bulldogs' advantage to 30-28 entering the fourth period.

In the fourth quarter, Chelsea answered in a big way outscoring Saline 14-4 to seal its victory.

Rabbitt led the Bulldogs with 12 points, four rebounds and one assist.

Hollandsworth added 10 points, four assists and two rebounds, while Dunn had nine points and two boards.

Darwin finished with eight points, seven rebounds and three steals, while Daniels and Foley each had two points.

Chelsea ended up 17-of-31 from the floor for 55 percent. The Bulldogs also nailed six three-pointers. Saline was 14-of-41 for 34 percent.

At the foul line, Chelsea was 4-of-10 for 40 percent. The Hornets were a perfect 3-of-3.

Saline out-rebounded the Bulldogs 21-19, including 8-6 on the offensive boards.

Both squads committed 24 turnovers. Chelsea recorded 14 steals, to the Hornets' 12.

The Bulldog bench outscored Saline's reserves 10-0.

Chelsea faced Erie-Mason in the Class B district semifinal after press deadline. If successful in the semifinal, the Bulldogs would play in the district championship Friday at 7 p.m. at Milan.
