At 1:06 p.m. Feb. 6 a 911 caller advised that her cousin, a 30-year-old Chelsea woman, had consumed an entire bottle of tequila and "a lot of antidepressant medication," and was behind the wheel of a green Ford van parked at a residence in the 1200 block of North Freer Road, according to a police report.
An officer approached the van and found the woman sprawled on the floor of the van between the front seats with an empty pill bottle beside her.
The woman was mumbling and slipping in and out of consciousness and the officer was unable to arouse her, so he called for paramedics to transport the woman to Chelsea Community Hospital for treatment.
The homeowner arrived while paramedics were there and told police the woman had been "stalking him for the last three weeks," the report stated, and the van was towed and impounded.
Another officer was dispatched to the woman's house in the 23000 block of Aspen Boulevard to check on her four children, and advised the woman's husband was caring them for.
Police had probable cause to believe the woman drove the van from her home to the Freer Road address while under the influence of liquor and drugs and obtained a search warrant for a blood draw at the hospital.
The blood test was difficult because the woman was dehydrated and incoherent, and struggled with hospital personnel, but they managed to get two partial blood samples to analyze for alcohol content.
The woman told police she drank vodka and tequila and took pills because "she wanted to die," the report stated.
She also denied several times that she was driving, but that she pushed the van down the street.
Her husband said she became angry after an argument and left the house in the van; after she left he discovered hat she took one bottle of vodka and one bottle of tequila with her.
Marijuana possession
A 46-year-old Chelsea man was arrested for suspected marijuana possession during a traffic stop at West Middle and Grant streets at 10:30 p.m. Feb. 7.
According to a police report, an officer found two suspected marijuana cigarettes in the ashtray of the Grand Marquis the suspect was driving.
Aggravated assault denied
Police were called to a residence in the 500 block of Parkside Court for a reported assault at 10:54 p.m. Feb. 7.
According to a police report, officers were told a 32-year-old Chelsea man assaulted his 60-year-old father from Mobile, Ala., and his 34-year-old brother from the Downriver Detroit area during an argument.
According to a police report, the case was dropped after neither the victims nor a witness, the suspect's 53-year-old mother, wanted to pursue criminal charges.
Assault follows game
Officers were dispatched to Chelsea High School at approximately 9 p.m. Feb. 7 for a fight in the bus loading area behind the school at the Trinkle Road entrance.
According to a police report, three Dexter teenage boys - a 13-year-old boy, his 16-year-old brother and their 15-year-old friend - had attended the Chelsea-Ypsilanti Lincoln girls basketball game and told officers they began a snowball fight outside after the game.
One of the boys accidentally hit a girl standing near the buses, and the girl and her friends came charging at them.
They boys said one of the girls was swinging at them and the 13-year-old shoved her backward and she fell to the ground.
At that point, one of the Ypsilanti coaches and another man approached the two brothers, grabbed them by their necks, put them in a headlock and dragged them toward the school, the report stated.
Assistant Principal Julie Deppner came outside when she saw the fight in progress and saw the men with their arms around the boys' necks.
Chelsea school officials will contact Dexter Schools about the incident, according to the report.
An officer advised the 13-year-old boy he would be petitioned for assault because the 17-year-old victim said the boy had his fist clenched when he pushed her
Contacted by phone, the boy's mother said she would "find out all of it," the report stated.
