Chelsea's boys' swimming and diving team lost to visiting county rival Dexter 108-78 in a dual meet last Friday.

"Dexter was somewhat of a let down," said Chelsea assistant coach Brian Thomas. "Friday was not one of our best meets by any standard. Dexter was ripe for the picking and we just couldn't get it going.

"We just didn't seem to get into the rivalry as much as Dexter and that is really frustrating."

To open the meet, the Bulldog foursome of senior Jake Policht, junior Michael Kozma, sophomore Dominic Conybeare and freshman Viran Rana placed third in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:58.99. Senior Mark Bowdish, senior Doug Lance, senior Deric Prieskorn and sophomore Todd Kruse finished fifth in 2:06.82.

In the 200 freestyle, Chelsea senior Rick Kinsey placed first in 1:50.88. Senior Nick Armstrong was second in 1:53.00, while sophomore Ryan Wrathall was sixth in 2:05.37 for the Bulldogs.

Conybeare was Chelsea's top finisher placing fourth in the 200 individual medley with a clocking of 2:21.20. Sophomore Nick Dyerly was fifth in 2:26.60 and Rana sixth in 2:30.63 for the Bulldogs.

Senior Brett Kruse was third in the 50 freestyle in 24.63 to pace Chelsea. Policht was fourth in 24.67, while freshman Evan Phillips was sixth in 25.07.

Freshman Michael Heydlauff placed second in the one-meter diving competition with a personal best 190.55 points. Sophomore Peter Wilke was third with a personal best 167.20 points, while freshman Pete Kinsey was fifth with 92.90 points for the Bulldogs.

"Our divers dove really well, including new diver Pete Kinsey," Thomas said.

Armstrong touched second in the 100 butterfly in 58.90. Rana was fifth in 1:06.82, while Dyerly was sixth in 1:07.70.

Senior Jordan Skidmore bested the field in the 100 freestyle finishing first in a state-qualifying time of 51.54. Brett Kruse was fifth in 55.14, while Phillips was sixth in 55.86.

Rick Kinsey placed first in the 500 freestyle with a clocking of 5:12.50. Senior James Bassett was fifth in 5:30.05, while junior Patrick Shaughnessy was sixth in 6:58.12 for Chelsea.

Skidmore ended up second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:02.18. Conybeare was third in 1:02.31, while Todd Kruse was fifth in 1:05.87.

On Feb. 6, host Chelsea defeated Brighton 94-92 in a dual meet.

"That was a thriller," Thomas said. "After starting off slow, in the second half of the meet we really took off. By splitting our 400 freestyle relays we were able to win the meet by two points.

"We had 31 personal best times against Brighton and most of the team shared in the effort to win the meet."

The group of Skidmore, Policht, Rana and Dyerly finished third in the 200 medley relay in 1:55.80 to begin the meet. Todd Kruse, Kozma, Bowdish and Prieskorn placed fourth in 2:05.74.
