Robert Allen Marble
Manistee
Formerly of Dexter
Robert A. Marble of Manistee passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Feb. 1, 2008. He was 48.
He was born on March 2, 1959 in Ann Arbor, the son of the late Frank and Lenore (Ackridge) Marble. Rob graduated from Dexter High School with the class of 1977. He then attended Michigan State University, graduating with his bachelor's degree in parks recreation/forest management. Rob enlisted in the United States Army, where he served for three years before he was honorably discharged.
Rob was employed as a State Police Trooper at the Wayland Post 56 for two years, the Detroit Post 29 for three years and then the Manistee Post 77 for the past 14 years.
Rob was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, and enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his children, as they were the joy of his life. He was also a member of the Michigan Cross-Country Cycle Trail Riders Association, the American Motorcyclist Association, and the Michigan State Police Troopers Association. Rob was also the zoning supervisor for Manistee Township.
Rob is survived by his wife, Deborah Marble of Manistee; two sons, Brandon and Jason Marble of Manistee; three step-children, Hunter, Hannah, and Haydyn Willey of Manistee; brother, David (Laurie) Marble of Gaines, MI; two sisters, Nancy (Randall) Collins of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., and Patricia Marble of Chelsea. Also surviving is sister-in-law, Vivian (Robert) Collick of Manistee; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Lynda and Susan Marble.
Funeral services for Rob will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008 at St. Andrew's United Church of Christ, 7610 Ann Arbor Street, in Dexter, with Dr. Robert Summers officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation at Hosmer-Muehlig Funeral Chapel, 3410 Broad St., in Dexter on Friday, Feb. 8, 2008 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Saturday at St. Andrew's Church from 10 a.m. until time of service.
Burial will be at St. Andrew's Cemetery, where military graveside honors will be conducted.
Visitation was also held in Manistee at the Manistee Township Hall on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Rob may be directed to the family of Robert Allen Marble. The family has entrusted funeral arrangements to Oak Grove Funeral Home & Cremation Center.
Betty Freeman Gill
Dickson, Tenn.
Formerly of Chelsea
Betty Freeman Gill of Dickson, Tenn., died Jan. 26, 2008. She was 76.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Cecil Gray Freeman.
Survivors include husband, Jessie Gill of Dickson, Tenn.; daughter, Sheree E. (Derrell) Cox of Vilonia, Ark.; son, Jay (Traci) Freeman of Charlotte, Tenn.; sisters, Doris Rittenberry of Charlotte, Tenn., Dorothy Eaves of Springhill, Tenn., and Christine Lively of Dickson, Tenn.; brother, Byno Batey of White Bluff, Tenn. Also surviving are five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 28, 2008 from the chapel of Spann Funeral Home with Brother Clarence Deloach officiating. Interment was in the Freeman Cemetery.
