The two have been working with dried flowers and herbs for more than 20 years. They grow many of their flowers and herbs themselves.
Merrill's farm outside of Chelsea provides a sunny garden plot and ample country landscape to collect decorative weeds, grasses and wild rose hips. "Old Friends" create and sell nature-inspired art and household products including wreaths, scented trivets filled with herbs and spices, lavender dryer bags, "cat-nappers" (cat beds stuffed with catnip), herbal moth repellant, and potpourri to name a just few.
Active members of The Michigan Herb Associates, Crockett and Hermann will be presenters at this year's Michigan Herb Associate's Conference. Their presentation entitled "Better Homes and Gardens for Fairies" will showcase their ingenious designs for "fairy houses."
They also give classes at various locations in the area. "Old Friends" is scheduled to give a wreath-making class at the Staples Family Center in Ann Arbor. This class, provided as part of a fund-raiser, will give the temporary residents of the center an opportunity to create a wreath to take with them when they leave the center for permanent housing.
"Old Friends" will demonstrate their techniques and sell many of their products at The Dexter Pioneer Arts Fair in March.
