Tankers face Saline, Huron in pool

Chelsea's boys' swimming and diving team lost to Saline 110-76 last Friday.

"Saline has a very good team," said Chelsea assistant coach Brian Thomas. "Numbers-wise, they're up there in the conference."
To begin the meet, the Bulldog group of senior Jordan Skidmore, senior Rick Kinsey, senior Nick Armstrong and senior Jake Policht placed second in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:48.90. Sophomore Dominic Conybeare, senior Doug Lance, senior Brett Kruse and freshman Viran Rana ended up fourth in 2:00.45 for the Bulldogs.
Rick Kinsey finished first in the 200 freestyle in 1:53.30. Skidmore was fourth in 2:03.17, while freshman Evan Phillips was fifth in 2:05.36 and senior James Bassett sixth in 2:08.73 for Chelsea.
Conybeare placed third in the 200 individual medley in 2:20.47. Sophomore Nick Dyerly was fourth in 2:29.26, while Rana was fifth in 2:30.00 and sophomore Todd Kruse eighth in 2:37.60 for the Bulldogs.
Armstrong was second in the 50 freestyle with a clocking of 23.46. Policht was fourth in 24.75, while Brett Kruse was fifth in 25.15 and senior Mark Bowdish eighth in 28.07 for Chelsea.
In the one-meter diving event, Bulldog freshman Michael Heydlauff finished third with 180.05 points. Peter Wilke was fifth with 148.85 points, while Landon Niesen was sixth with 117.20 points for Chelsea.
Rana placed third in the 100 butterfly in 1:07.90. Dyerly was fourth in 1:09.50, while junior Michael Kozma was seventh in 1:22.11.
Armstrong bested the field in the 100 freestyle, winning in 51.38. Brett Kruse was third in 57.30, while Phillips was fourth in 57.31.
Rick Kinsey finished first in the 500 freestyle with a clocking of 5:02.25. Bassett was fourth in 5:47.48, while sophomore Ryan Wrathall was seventh in 5:57.36.
In the 200 freestyle relay, the Bulldog quartet of Dyerly, Policht, Wrathall and Phillips placed second in 1:42.45. Sophomore Matt Bach, Bowdish, Lance and Bassett touched fourth in 1:51.42.
Skidmore placed first in the 100 backstroke in 58.78. Conybeare was third in 1:04.22, while Todd Kruse was fifth in 1:10.05 and sophomore Jared Gentz eighth in 1:25.21 for Chelsea.
Policht was third in the 100 breaststroke in 1:17.98. Lance was fifth in 1:21.39, while freshman Pete Kinsey was sixth in 1:23.83 and junior Deric Prieskorn seventh in 1:24.98 for the Bulldogs.
In the 400 freestyle relay, Brett Kruse, Rick Kinsey, Armstrong and Skidmore placed second in 3:34.64. Dyerly, Phillips, Wrathall and Conybeare finished fourth in 3:58.99.
"We had an excellent chance of winning the meet," Thomas said. "We didn't swim well at the beginning of the meet. The guys showed up in the second half of the meet. They did a nice job."
On Jan. 9, visiting Chelsea lost to Ann Arbor Huron 114-71.
"Huron is a great program," Thomas said. "They swam real well."
Rick Kinsey, Policht, Conybeare and Rana placed third in the 200 medley relay in 2:00.26 to begin the meet. Todd Kruse, Lance, Phillips and Kozma ended up fifth in 2:08.19.
Rick Kinsey finished second in the 200 freestyle in 1:49.56. Dyerly was fifth in 2:08.34, while Wrathall was sixth in 2:09.66 and Bassett seventh in 2:13.69.
Armstrong ended up fourth in the 200 individual medley in 2:14.91. Conybeare was fifth in 2:22.27, while Rana was sixth in 2:31.11.
Policht led the Bulldogs placing third in the 50 freestyle in 25.02. Brett Kruse was fifth in 25.55, while Phillips was sixth in 26.21 and Bowdish seventh in 28.26.
Heydlauff finished second in the one-meter diving competition with 152.60 points. Wilke was fourth with 150.35 points.
Skidmore touched second in the 100 butterfly in 1:01.68. Rana was fifth in 1:09.44, while Kozma was seventh in 1:25.96.
Armstrong finished second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 51.60. Brett Kruse was third in 55.89, while Phillips was sixth in 57.45 and Bach eighth in 1:03.26.
Rick Kinsey placed second in the 500 freestyle with a clocking of 5:05.11. Bassett was fifth in 5:50.70, while Dyerly was sixth in 5:56.40.
Rick Kinsey, Brett Kruse, Armstrong and Skidmore placed second in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:37.70. Phillips, Bach, Wrathall and Policht finished fourth in 1:45.46.
Skidmore placed first in the 100 backstroke in 1:01.59, while Conybeare was second in 1:04.19 and Todd Kruse fifth in 1:09.38.
Policht ended up second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:19.22. Lance was third in 1:19.38, while Pete Kinsey was fourth in 1:24.66 and Gentz fifth in 1:32.07 for Chelsea.
In the 400 freestyle relay, the Bulldog foursome of Rick Kinsey, Skidmore, Conybeare and Armstrong placed first with a clocking of 3:39.66. Dyerly, Bach, Rana and Wrathall touched third in 4:04.31 for the Bulldogs.
Chelsea next travels to Adrian for a meet Friday at 6:30 p.m.
