Chelsea competes in DeWitt invite

Chelsea's boys' swimming and diving team participated in the DeWitt Invitational last Saturday. The Bulldogs split their squad, fielding A and B teams.

The Chelsea A team finished third overall with 266 points, while the B squad was seventh with 183 points.
Holt placed first in the seven-team meet with 335 points.
"After a very hard Christmas break practice routine, we had some impressive swims from our younger swimmers," said Chelsea assistant coach Brian Thomas.
To open the invitational, the Bulldog foursome of Jordan Skidmore, Jake Policht, Viran Rana and Brett Kruse placed fourth in the 200 medley relay with a time of 11:54.48. Todd Kruse, Peter Kinsey, Mark Bowdish and Deric Prieskorn finished seventh in 2:12.22.
In the 200 freestyle, Chelsea's Rick Kinsey placed second in a state cut time of 1:51.63. Ryan Wrathall was fifth in 2:10.57. Dyerly was 12th in 2:13.32, while James Bassett was 13th in 2:14.19 for the Bulldogs.
Dominic Conybeare finished fourth in the 200 individual medley with a clocking of 2:20.47 for Chelsea. Todd Kruse ended up sixth in 2:37.53.
Nick Armstrong placed second in the 50 freestyle with a state cut time of 22.99 for the Bulldogs. Jordan Veenstra was seventh in 27.38.
In the one-meter diving competition, Michael Heydlauff placed fifth with 128.45 points to lead Chelsea. Landon Nieson finished sixth with 108.25 points for the Bulldogs.
Skidmore ended up fourth in the 100 butterfly with a clocking of 1:01.11. Bowdish placed seventh in 1:34.91.
In the 100 freestyle, Armstrong bested the field placing first with a state cut clocking of 51.16. Wrathall was seventh in 57.80.
Rick Kinsey finished second in the 500 freestyle in a state qualifying time of 5:10.24. Bassett touched sixth in 5:57.41, while Dyerly was 11th in 5:59.57 and Jared Gentz 14th in 7:05.55.
In the 200 freestyle relay, Rick Kinsey, Brett Kruse, Armstrong and Policht placed second with a time of 1:35.08. Matt Bach, Wrathall, Bassett and Bowdish touched sixth in 1:48.33. Evan Phillips, Doug Lance, Peter Wilke and Rana finished 11th in 1:51.65, while Jesse Taylor, Patrick Shaughhnessy, Michael Paluzzi and Prieskorn ended up 15th in 2:12.58.
Skidmore placed second in the 100 backstroke with a state cut time of 58.55. Todd Kruse was sixth in 1:10.14 for Chelsea.
Policht finished fifth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:18.13, while Peter Kinsey was seventh in 1:24.49 for the Bulldogs.
In the 400 freestyle relay, the Chelsea quartet of Rick Kinsey, Brett Kruse, Skidmore and Armstrong placed second in a state cut clocking of 3:29.73. Peter Kinsey, Todd Kruse, Wrathall and Bassett finished fifth in 4:03.36.
The Bulldogs next host Saline Friday at 6:30 p.m.
On Jan. 19, Chelsea travels to Adrian for meet at 6:30 p.m.
