An argument between two out-of-state tractor-trailer drivers resulted in one trucker being arrested for the other's murder at a Scio Township truck stop.

Washtenaw County Sheriff's deputies and Michigan State Police troopers were called to the T/A Travel Center at Baker Road and I-94 at about 9:07 p.m. Dec. 29 for a report of a stabbing.

According to Cmdr. Dave Egeler, Sheriff's Department public information officer, police found the victim in the truck stop restaurant.

Witnesses pointed out the suspect in the parking lot, and police took him into custody without incident. Deputies also recovered the weapon used.

The victim was identified as Gregory Hobert, 44, of Davenport, Iowa.

Hobert was taken to the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, where he died of his injuries shortly after 10 p.m.

Chief Assistant Prosecutor Steve Hiller identified the suspect as Bradley Scott Biebuyck, 36, of Garland, Texas.

Egeler described the circumstances leading to the assault.

"The victim, his girlfriend and her 10-year-old daughter were in one truck, and the woman's ex-husband, who is the girl's father, was in another truck, and they were having a conversation over the CB radio," Egeler said, adding that the suspect was a third party to the CB conversation, unrelated to the victim, the girl or her parents.

"The suspect intervened with lewd and rude comments about the daughter on the radio," Egeler said.

The truckers pulled into the travel center and an argument between them ensued.

According to Egeler, the argument escalated into a fight and Biebuyck stabbed Hobert in the chest.

Hiller said Biebuyck was arraigned Dec. 31 on one count of open murder and one count assault with a dangerous weapon, or felonious assault.

A public defender has been appointed, and he is being held on no bond, Hiller said.

Biebuyck's preliminary exam was set for 1 p.m. Tuesday in Chief Circuit Judge Archie C. Brown's court.

The Sheriff's Department is asking anyone who may have heard the CB radio transmissions to call the sheriff's department confidential tip line at 734-973-7711.
